Description: In this interview, Aida Hernandez spoke about her life growing up in the Philippines, and about the turmoil and martial law there in the early 1970’s. She talks about her journey from Turkey to New York and how she came to Queens in the 1970’s. Aida talks about her hardships living in Queens and how she overcame them, started a family, and opened a restaurant in Jackson Heights. Aida wanted to expand the Filipino culture in Queens. She discusses how Queens is a community of diversity and is a place where people can make connections and build relationships with one another.
