Description: Athena Varnava makes koupepia (stuffed grape leaves) and gemista (stuffed tomatoes and peppers) at her home in Auburndale. Athena was born and raised in Limassol, Cyprus but moved to Queens when she was 19 years old. Her daughter, Andrea Varnava has learned many of the family cooking traditions and interviews her mother about them for the Queens Memory Project.
