Description: Donald Hirschhorn discusses his memories of the Queens Jewish Center in Queens Village when he was growing up in the 1930s and 1940s. The synagogue had a large congregation and many social activities, in which his mother participated. It was unusual in that it had a choir. He also describes a photograph of the center's dedication dinner in 1931, which depicts many celebrants, including Dr. Morris Fierstein, a prominent member of the congregation. The ethnic population of the neighborhood has changed, and the building now houses a Christian church.
