Donald Hirschhorn, Clip 7: Strong Support for Widowed Mother
Collection: Queens Memory Project Collection at Queens College Libraries' Department of Special Collections and Archives: Donald Hirschhorn
Description: Donald Hirschhorn discusses his father's death when he was only 12 and the effect it had on his family. He briefly lived in Florida with his wealthy uncle, the businessman and art collector Joseph Hirschhorn, but was homesick and soon returned to New York. Donald's mother provided for the family by working in the Wallachs' menswear store in Jamaica, and received a great deal of social support from family members and the Jewish community of Queens Village.
