Elizabet Flores, Full Interview
Collection: This recording is part of the 30th Ave - A Year in the Life of a Street Records at the Archives at Queens Library: Elizabet Flores
Description: Elizabet Flores owns La Bomboniera Marylu party store on Astoria's 30th Ave. She is originally from Mexico. She used to clean the home of the store's previous owner; when the owner mentioned she was selling the business because she was moving to Florida, Elizabet asked if she could take it on. She discusses learning about the party traditions of different cultures in the neighborhood and providing the products for them, such as Orthodox Greek Easter celebrations or Ecuadorians' "Divino Niño" festival. Her favorite items in the store are the favors called bombonieras, the store's namesake, which contain five sugared almonds and can be adapted for any occasion: birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc.
