Description: Mrs. McDonald became a community activist in the 1960's. Her earliest involvement was a campaign for a traffic light near St. Teresa's School, where her children were students. She picketed on 48th St. along with other mothers and children and eventually became a spokesperson for the effort, making her case to numerous officials (all male). Eventually the campaign succeeded, launching Gertrude's notable career as a community advocate.
