Description: Gladys Weaver (nee Simpkins) grew up in Jamaica, Queens in the 1940s. For a nickel, she could get to Manhattan, but the subway hadn't been extended all the way to her neighborhood. She would take the train to Forest Hills and then take a trolley and buses to get the rest of the way to Jamaica. As a child, she also had a savings account with her local post office and learned to value saving her money.
