Description: Several men pose on the steps of John Jockers' Grand View Hotel, and two others look out of second-floor windows. Designed by architect Morris Gescheidt in the Italianate style, it was constructed around 1857 as a residence for Herman A. Schleicher, a German immigrant who died in 1866. The mansion was purchased by John Jockers around 1892, and converted into a hotel which continued operating into the early twentieth century.
