Helene Schlesinger Clip 2: Amusements at the 1939 New York World's Fair
Collection: This recording is part of the Helene and Stanley Schlesinger Oral History and is available in digital audio.
Description: Helene Schlesinger remembers a great many details about the 1939 World's Fair, which she attended frequently as an eight-year-old child. She would take the train to the fair from Kew Gardens with her mother at least once or twice a week with visiting relatives. She enjoyed riding the Parachute Jump that was later moved to Coney Island. She describes the Russian pavilion that was only present during the first year of the fair, which featured a recreation of the Moscow subway. She also recalls the General Motors exhibit and seeing a television for the first time in an RCA exhibit.
