Description: Mrs. Schlesinger taught many new immigrants from Afghanistan, Russia, and South America in her 5th grade classroom. There was a "pull-out" program for English language lessons during part of the day, but in the classroom non-English-speaking students were paired with bilingual students who would help them. She remembers having an overcrowded classroom with 34 students during those years.
