Description: Former groundskeeper Jim Sheridan explains the West Side Tennis Club's move away from all-grass courts as the popularity and use of the courts increased over time. What had always been called the National Championships at the club became the US Open, which allowed competition to get more serious and put more money at stake. This resulted in a need for courts with more consistent conditions than grass could provide.
