Description: Marion Duckworth Smith donated this photo of her home and gardens, in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Mrs. Duckworth Smith is the owner of the Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead, the oldest private home in NYC dating back to 1654, a historical landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rikers were early Dutch settlers and Riker's Island bears their name. Her property contains the original Riker farmhouse and the Riker burial ground where 132 Rikers and Riker descendants are buried. The fallen tree in this photo demolished the gazebo and fountain on the property.
