Description: The majority of documents in this collection are indentures concerning property (real estate deeds) or related documents. Some are not originals but either photocopies of the originals or copies in typescript. It would appear that the majority of these deeds pertain to a section of land once called Barren Island, and to other areas in the old township of Jamaica, especially in the Jamaica Bay and the Rockaway Peninsula area, as well as Flatlands in Kings County. Others refer to the Newtown area, and a very few even to Somerset County in New Jersey. No doubt, if one studied these deeds carefully, a complete or nearly complete title search involving specific properties could be obtained.
