Description: Frank Chaffee's Tent City, Rockaway Beach, N.Y. In 1903, Frank Chaffee, a sail and tent maker, opened Rockaway Beach’s largest tent city, between Beach 106 Street and Beach 109 Street, from Rockaway Boulevard to the oceanfront. There was a central pavilion in Chaffee’s camp, which contained a restaurant, bowling alley, camp offices, and some rooms in a small hotel section.; Address, postmark, stamp and inscription on verso. Text addressed to Paul E. Bauer, reading: Paul take good care of the chicks and don’t let the corn barrel get empty. Father
