Simeon Wood Literary Manuscripts

Identifier: aql:15962

Description: The collection is divided into two broad physical characteristic series, Bound Volumes, and Loose Papers. There are about 18 volumes in the former series and are small composition style volumes in format. All are in manuscript (mainly written in ink, though there are some in pencil) and a few contain many loose notes inserted in them (These have been removed for the most part and are now found in envelopes filed immediately behind the volumes from which they were removed.). None of them have title pages, but it may very well be that they represent (at least for the most part) rough drafts of poems which were later issued as a collection titled THE DRAMA OF LIFE. Three books of this series are not concerned with poetry, but evidently, with the history of Hauppauge. It is not known if these represent working copies (there are a very, very few corrections in them), or perhaps intended as copies for distribution. One is in typescript and is titled HAUPPAUGE, A BRIEF HISTORY OF ITS FIRST SETTLERS ALSO AN ACCOUNT OF THE CHURCH AND ITS CENTENNIAL, 1806-1906.
