Historical/Biographical Note

William Cahill, a life-long resident of Brooklyn, New York, fan of baseball, and a member of Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) since 1983, spent fifteen years from the mid 1980’s to 1999 researching semi-professional baseball in the New York City Metropolitan region. He spent his time pouring through newspapers looking for articles about games, players, leagues, teams, and special events. He traveled to minor league ballparks throughout the area to experience baseball firsthand. He communicated with others regarding his research, including Robert Eisen of Garden City, New York another baseball researcher. At some point in their research, he and Mr. Eisen divided their work into two parts, Mr. Cahill exploring the southern part of the island and Mr. Eisen doing the same for the northern part.

In the new century Mr. Cahill’s research topic changed, applying the same enthusiasm and dedication he used in researching baseball, he is now researching big band jazz from the first half of the twentieth century. Though he still enjoys baseball and its history; his interests have taken him in a new direction.
