Historical/Biographical Note
For much of his adult life William Erwin Case, Sr. was a real estate agent. However the contents of this collection come from his interest as an amateur photographer and member of the Jamaica Camera Club. Not much else is known about Mr. Case.
William E. Case was born in 1874 to the farmer William Benedict and Emma Eliza (Bartow) Case in Jamaica, New York. Coincidently, their neighbor was the Jamaica photographer, Charles Conklin. By 1900 William was living with his parents and brother Albin Roeckel at 45 Union Hall Street, Jamaica, New York. The federal census lists him as a lumber inspector. In 1904 William married Elizabeth Anna Watts. According to the 1910 Census, they live in East Amwell, NJ where they had a son William Erwin Case, Jr. By 1920 William became a real estate agent and moved to a home on 51 Union Hall Street, Jamaica, New York. By the 1930 census the family was living at 77 7th Street, Valley Stream, New York. The Jamaica Camera Club was an organization comprised of photographers from around Jamaica. Mr. Case was the Club's president in 1904.
