Scope and Content Note

All letters in this collection are addressed to William James Vassar, either in Cincinnati, Ohio or Napoleon, Indiana where he presumably finally settled.

This small collection consists of only six letters, none of which are original, but rather photocopies. Indeed, two of the letters are photocopies of typescripts, and not the originals.

Letters are primarily personal in nature affording details about the family's health and happenings, and are dated between 1848 and 1852. By implication, other than local happenings are mentioned, such as the California Gold Rush of 1849, but these only very minimally.
