Historical/Biographical Note
Flatbush was one of the original towns of Kings County-holding such status from the 17th century to its annexation by Brooklyn City in 1894.

Scope and Content Note
This very small collection of less than a dozen documents were gathered together simply because in one way or another they dealt with the town or were documents produced by residents of it. They are miscellaneous in character and do not pertain to any one specific theme. A complete listing of these documents follows:
1711, Jun 16 - Real Estate deed involving Johannis Johnson and several others
1721, Apr 19 - Petition or statement signed by Hans Bergen and John Rapelye regarding the laying out of "the King's Highway”
1764, Jul 29 - Subpoena to unnamed individual involving a court action.
1805, May 1 - Real Estate deed involving Thomas Thomas and his wife, and John Van Siclen and others
1822, Oct 1 - List of letters remaining in the Post Office
1828, Apr 1 - Post office receipt involving Jacob Duryee
1828, Apr 1 - List of dead letters in the Flatbush Post Office
1837, Apr 29 - Real estate deed involving Gerrit L. (Martense?) his wife Jane and William H. Campbell
1862, Dec 24 - Notice issued by the Town Supervisor regarding sale of land for Flatbush Avenue

Access Restrictions
Open for research without restrictions. Manuscripts are only available in the Archives at Queens Library, please call (718) 990-0770 for hours. Manuscript users will be required to complete the division's Manuscript Usage Form and deposit their photograph identification or Queens Borough Public Library card with a staff member. The identification will be returned to the user after she/he has returned the material. Manuscript users will deposit all their personal items behind the reference desk. Manuscript users must use the division's loose sheets of paper for note taking. To reiterate, no pen of any type is permitted. Paper and a pencil are available upon request. Manuscript users may be required to use special handling procedures depending on the conditions of the material.
