Historical/Biographical Note
The town of Islip is, of course, one of the townships in Suffolk County. As a town it had several official governing agencies, among them being one concerned with elections. We are not sure of the official term for this group, but probably it was Board of Elections or perhaps Board of Registry. Within this body, there may have been one or two sub-divisions. Essentially, for the purposes of this collection, this need not concern us for the collection is, indeed, extremely fragmentary.

Scope and Content Note
This small collection consists of but a dozen items, all of them rather small thin bound volumes. Apparently, all or virtually all, covered the First District of the Town of Islip. It would seem (judging from some of the contents of the volumes) that this district covered the village of West Islip. At least, that village made up at least part of the District.
All volumes are rather similar in format consisting of pages with various columns. They vary a bit in size. More specifically, the following volumes are found.
Registers of Electors - There are five such registers, these covering the years 1890, 1891 and 1892. These volumes contain about 35 to 40 pages each and consists of an alphabetized listing of registered voters followed by an address for each. Only the 1891 and 1892 volumes give some specific street addresses, while the 1890 register lists all addresses as "West Islip". One of the 1890 volumes contains a loose document consisting of two sheets titled "names of Voters", while one of the 1891 volumes contains what appears to be an official ballot listing the names of the individuals running for office. Some volumes marked as being a copy or a duplicate. Only some registers signed by the pertinent town officials.
Election Poll Lists - There are five such lists, dated 1890, 1891 and 1892, Most volumes are relatively empty. Names and residences are listed, as well as some clerical information regarding the ballots cast.
Democratic Canvass Book - This volume is dated 1890, and contains names of individuals registered as Republicans as well. All told, there are about 60 to 80 names listed.
Election Poll Book - This volume was used in the election of 1912 and consists of about 40 pages containing the names of the voters in alphabetical order, address is also given, as well as the number assigned to each individual when he cast his ballot.
