Historical/Biographical Note

Scope and Content Note
The collection is a small one consisting of about 80 documents. About 15 of these documents are lists of tolls collected by toll gate keepers, W.H. Jones and Daniel Wanser. These sheets list the amounts collected on each day of the month. With the exception of two lists which are dated 1867, the others are all for 1866.
Besides these toll gate receipts, the other documents are, by and large, virtually all receipted bills for various kinds. These are dated 1852, 1853, 1866 and 1867 (with a very few undated). The 1852-1853 bills are mainly for compensation for the taking of property needed by the Company, and this would indicate that it was about this period that said Company was started. The 1866-1867 receipted bills are, by and large, for gate keepers wages, and other wages; and for repair work on the Road done by various contractors. Also included are a few other documents dated ca. 1847-1852 which appear to be fairly detailed financial listings, presumably done by an accountant or a Company official. These probably have bearing on the very beginnings of the very formation of the Company Itself.
