Abstract: The Thomas Langan Photograph Collection (42 photographs, 1918 - 1949) contains photographs highlighting the scenery of Jackson Heights, N.Y. The main focus is on Garden apartment buildings in the Jackson Heights area. There are several photos of the Jackson Heights Golf Club included with the images of the Garden apartment buildings. The buildings include the Fairway, the Chateau, and the Dunnolly Gardens apartments. All images in the collection are in print format.

Historical/Biographical Note

Not much is known about Thomas Langan. Clearly this collector held an interest in Jackson Heights and the creation of Garden apartments for its residences in the early 1930’s and 1940’s. There is no known timeframe for his collection of images but the images were given to the Queens Library Archives in the late 2000’s.

Scope and Content Note

The Thomas Langan Photograph Collection (42 photographs, 1918 -1949) contains photographs highlighting the scenery of Jackson Heights, NY. Most of the photographs cover the Garden apartments of Jackson Heights. A Garden apartment is a building style usually characterized by two story semi-detached buildings. Mr. Langan collected these images that contain photos from A.G. Willard, the Brown Bros., and Thomas F. Campbell.

There are photographs of buildings, the Jackson Heights’ Golf course, and the surrounding Jackson Heights’ East Elmhurst community.

The photographs are duplicates from the Queens Historical Society’s Thomas Langan Collection.

Access Restrictions

Open for research without restrictions. Manuscripts are only available in the Archives at Queens Library, please call (718) 990-0770 for hours. Manuscript users will be required to complete the division's Manuscript Usage Form and deposit their photograph identification or Queens Borough Public Library card with a staff member. The identification will be returned to the user after she/he has returned the material. Manuscript users will deposit all their personal items behind the reference desk. Manuscript users must use the division's loose sheets of paper for note taking. To reiterate, no pen of any type is permitted. Paper and a pencil are available upon request. Manuscript users may be required to use special handling procedures depending on the conditions of the material.
