Historical/Biographical Note
The Queenlawn Park Civic Association was probably founded during the early 1920’s. Representing the people of Queens Village it engaged in many of the typical activities of such associations. It sought the improvement of its area and campaigned on this behalf.

Scope and Content Note
The collection, an extremely small one, pertains to the early years of the Association's existence. Besides one large scrapbook, there are some 18 loose documents.
The scrapbook (only about quarter of which has been, utilized) was maintained by Carl J. Goldenbaum, historian of the Association. Items pasted into it are dated 1927 to 1930 and consist of newspaper clips; typed copies of newspaper articles appearing in the "'Queens Review”; photographs; and some miscellaneous items such as letterheads.
The loose documents are in the main letters to or from the Association and are dated from Oct 1930 to Nov 1931 There are ten letters and they deal essentially with improvement matters (installing a fire alarm box, lighting a rail road station stairway, etc.). A few are copies of letters written by the officers to members at large.
The remainder of the items consist of a few announcements; programs of dances tendered by the Association; or similar. These are all dated in the 1930s with one item dated

Access Restrictions
Open for research without restrictions. Manuscripts are only available in the Archives at Queens Library, please call (718) 990-0770 for hours. Manuscript users will be required to complete the division's Manuscript Usage Form and deposit their photograph identification or Queens Borough Public Library card with a staff member. The identification will be returned to the user after she/he has returned the material. Manuscript users will deposit all their personal items behind the reference desk. Manuscript users must use the division's loose sheets of paper for note taking. To reiterate, no pen of any type is permitted. Paper and a pencil are available upon request. Manuscript users may be required to use special handling procedures depending on the conditions of the material.
