He and Gertrude lived, raised a family and died in Middle Island. He was a lifetime employee of the Long Island Rail Road Company, with his first job at the freight office at Camp Upton in Yaphank.

Throughout his life he was interested in Long Island and Suffolk County history. When he retired he wrote about this history in the Long Island Advance and authored over fifty pamphlets. His photographs represent his work life and local history research. He took photographs of Camp Upton, Nikola Tesla’s laboratory and Long Island Rail Road. He duplicated photographs of historic sites in central Suffolk County for his writings.
