Scope and Content Note
In December 1975, still more material belonging to this collection was discovered in our vault area. Essentially, this material consists of rough notes or drafts written by Mr. Armbruster (probably the 1920’s and 1930’s). These in the overwhelming number of instances were written on very cheap and now fragile 8½x11” notepaper and in pencil. A rather small portion of these notes were written in ink on paper which Mr. Armbruster may have used when he served on a WPA project in the 1930's gathering information for a local history project. These note papers are headed on the top with the printed words “History Map No.” No doubt, some of these notes were eventually incorporated into Mr. Armbruster’s writings. These notes, it would appear, can be broken down into two categories, albeit, rather wide ones. These are FLUSHING HISTORY, and GENEALOGY. Both are about evenly divided in quantity. Part of the Genealogy section apparently is data gathered from the 1850 Census dealing with Flushing.
Over and above the aforesaid is a third and much smaller group. These are more in the nature of compositions or articles centered around specific subjects. The following are at least some of the subjects: Bedford; Brooklyn Heights, Flatbush, Greenpoint, Long Island, South Brooklyn, Suffolk County Towns.
