Description: Lewis Latimer was an African-American inventor and draftsman who lived in Flushing from 1903 until his death in 1928. Latimer worked with Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell, and held a number of patents, including one for water closets in railway cars. His home has been preserved as the Lewis H. Latimer House Museum, part of the Historic House Trust of New York City.
