Identifier: aql:5602

Description: The Queens Museum and Museum of the City of New York each hold collections on the 1939-1940 and 1964-1965 New York World’s Fairs held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in the borough of Queens. The collections include books, pamphlets, printed ephemera, architectural drawings, original artwork, film and audio recordings, photographs, architectural models, textiles, and souvenirs. The varied formats and subjects of the materials provide a uniquely holistic perspective on the New York World’s Fairs and the events surrounding them that shaped the physical and cultural landscape of the city, even as their impact was felt around the globe. Over 1600 object highlights from the collections at both Museums were cataloged with the generous support of the Council on Libraries and Information Resources (CLIR) as part of a Cataloging Hidden and Special Collections and Archives grant project. These objects cannot be accessed at the Queens Library. To learn more about these collections email the Museum of the City of New York at research@mcny.org, and the Queens Museum at info@queensmuseum.org. Collection use is subject to all copyright laws.
