Description: The bearded gentleman standing in the center of the back row is identified as John C. Haefele, whose presence indicates the photograph was taken before his death on February 9th, 1898. Behind the group, waiters are seen on a covered porch containing dining tables. Although the other men are not identified and the location is not known, this group may be the John C. Haefele Association. Mr. Haefele maintained a clubhouse for the association in a hotel on Thirteenth Street near Seventh Avenue (now College Point Boulevard near 123rd Street), which he owned and ran for a number of years.
