Horton Family Of Southold Miscellaneous Papers

Identifier: aql:15798

Description: There are only some 55 documents, in this small collection though they are dated ca. 1828-1854. These consist of such types as wills, receipts, bonds, and related items. Evidently, the earlier dated documents resulted primarily from the administration of the estate of Jonathan Horton (died ca. 1828-1831) by his sons Jonathan G. Horton and Renessalear Horton. Their mother, Mary Horton, is also mentioned on several documents, as are some other family members. The later dated documents evidently deal primarily with the administration of the estate of James M. Horton who probably died late 1859 or early 1860. Other than this aspect, that is, estate administration, there does not appear to be any one theme running through the papers.
