Description: When Mrs. Schlesinger first started teaching, African American children were bused in from South Jamaica Queens. She taught at P.S. 219, where busing happened as well. She felt it was sad that since the kids had to leave at the end of the day, they didn't get to become friends with the local kids. She says her family moved to the area for the schools and because it was integrated. Her own kids went to P.S. 164, Campbell Junior High School, and John Bowne High School where her husband was on the board.
