Description: Portrait of David Starr [undated - 1970 - 1990]. David Starr was born on August 1, 1922 in New York City. Following graduation from Richmond Hill High School—where he had been editor of the school newspaper— he enrolled at Queens College where he graduated in 1942. In November 1942 he legally changed his name from Sinowitz to Starr. Following graduation in 1942, the Long Island Press hired Starr (a Newhouse publication). He became editor of the Long Island Press in 1968, and in 1971 was named senior editor of the Newhouse Group, a title he retains to this day. Mr. David Starr serves as the President of the Springfield Republican and Senior Editor of Newhouse Newspapers. Mr. Starr serves as a Director of The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). He is a Member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Newspaper Association of America, as well as Director and past President of the Massachusetts Newspaper Publishers Association. Mr. Starr's community activities include affiliations with the Springfield Library and Museums Association, the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Springfield Business Friends of the Arts and the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusett.
