Description: Frank DePaola was born in Calabria, Italy. He came to New York with his family when he was eight; they lived on Long Island before moving to Astoria. Frank opened Sorriso Salumeria on 30th Ave. around 1978. The store specializes in Italian foods, and in finding items that customers request. He says the Italian community in Astoria has gotten smaller, but there are still some families who he has catered to for three generations; now the grandchildren of his original customers come in to the store. Although he doesn't describe himself as a "computer guy," the Internet has made business a lot faster, both in terms of him being able to order and get items quickly, and customers finding out about the store through sites like Yelp.
