Description: Mrs. McDonald relates how in 1968, the women she worked with to protest the construction of a narcotics center wanted to nominate her for district assembly. They sent a letter out to Democratic county leader, who never answered because at that time women were excluded from politics. However, the Republicans nominated a woman, and expressed regret at not having chosen Mrs. McDonald instead. It was a close race, Mrs. McDonald lost by only 240 votes against the Republican nominee. McDonald feels this election opened up doors for women in politics.
