The McQuilling House
Collection: Queens Memory Project Collection at Queens College Libraries' Department of Special Collections and Archives: Annalou Christensen
Description: Annalou Christensen (nee McQuilling)'s parents, Thomas and Anna McQuilling, purchased the lot for this home in the 1920's from the original developers of the Waldheim Neighborhood in Flushing, Queens. The house stood on Cherry Avenue at the northern end of Smart Street. Annalou remembered being able to see her mother's green door from blocks away as she walked north on Smart Street back home from Kissena Park. Many years later, the Christensen family found it difficult to sell the house and learned from their realtor that Chinese buyers believed its location at the top of a long street was inauspicious for retaining wealth. The house was eventually purchased by a Pakistani family who then sold it to a developer who demolished it and built apartment buildings on the property.
