Description: Christine Martinez and her neighbors on Beach 91st Street all sustained property damage during Hurricane Sandy. Their fires at night like the one pictured here, would both cook their food and also provide a gathering place where they could discuss their recovery efforts. According to Martinez, "we came up with this idea to put this stove in the middle of the street to let people know on our block that there was warmth and food available."
