Description: At the time of this interview, Mr. Khan had lived in Queens Village for sixteen years. His ancestors originated from India, like many Guyanese. Mr. Khan is a retired elementary school principal who lives by himself. Two years ago his wife of many years died, leaving him to care for himself. Mr. Khan is an active member of his church, Redeemer Lutheran Church. He is a well-liked and respectable member of his community. He is one of the senior members of MAG (Ministries among Guyanese). This organization raises money through many events for Lutheran Churches in Guyana. Although Mr. Khan is Lutheran Christian, he holds on to his heritage and culture. Often, he would attend Muslim and Hindu religious functions where he would acknowledge his roots by chanting the prayers and partaking in the delicious nostalgic foods. Although he is nearly 84 years old, Mr. Khan takes public transportation to move around. I am Bibi Khan and I conducted this interview for Natalie Milbrodt and Professor Viladrich, to use for the Queens Memory Project.
