Description: As president of the Briarwood Community Association, Sey Schwartz is determined to give Briarwood its own identity. His efforts recently culminated in the renaming of the local subway station from “Briarwood/Van Wyck” to, simply, “Briarwood.” Briarwood is now on the map – officially. It is seen on all subway maps, the station name, real estate listings, etc. Briarwood now has its own post office and its own library. Before the Association, none of these existed. When the Schwartzes arrived in 1953, it was still pretty raw; between his home and Queens Borough Hall was undeveloped land. This included what are now Hoover-Manton Park and Archbishop Molloy High School – “all that was undeveloped green grass.”
