Description: Claremont Terrace - Samuel Lord House on the south side of the present Macnish St. between Elmhurst Ave. and Whitney Ave. A carriage drive led from Broadway. The house was set back from Broadway on a tract bounded by Elmhurst Ave., 43 Ave., Broadway , and Judge St. Samuel Lord was born in England in 1803, came to the U.S. 1824, and opened NYC Store around 1825, became partners with George W. Taylor in 1827 (Lord & Taylor). He moved to Newtown in 1840, retired in the 1860s, and returned to England and died May 1889.
