Description: Little boy's suit 1860 - This was known as a kilt suit. Made of red and black woolen plaid, it has a jacket and a kilt. The collarless jacket is cut on the bias, giving it flare. Waist-length sleeves are set off-the-shoulder. The kilt is also flared, with the straight of the material falling at the center front. Black braid trims of the jacket edges and makes a band above the hem of the kilt. Watercolor painting by Mina Lowry. [Description taken from accompanying exhibition card.]
