Description: Florence Taylor-Johnson was an African-American political activist that lived in Elmhurst, Queens. In her interview, she discusses her childhood, her children and grandchildren, her family, and experiences in Queens. Florence has always considered herself to be outspoken and natural leader. She says that people in 1995 were very different from her generation because they did not speak out on the issues that mattered to them because they were too afraid of what people might think. Even though Florence was ridiculed for being an activist, she continued to stand up for the things that mattered to her and heavily motivated by the speeches of MLK JR.
