Description: Edsall House - SE corner of Catalpa Avenue and Fresh Pond Road (old address no. 915 Fresh Pond Road). This view is looking SW from 62nd Street and Catalpa Avenue. Frame shed for pumping station and cistern were built in the early 1890's by Henry W. Meyer (owner of Ivanhoe Tobacco Co.) for fire protection. In 1896, Ivanhoe Park Fire Hook and Ladder Co. No. 10 was organized and incorporated into the Newtown Fire Dept., and was at this location until 1900 when a new station was built on south side of Myrtle Avenue between 66th Place and 67th Street. The large house beyond the shed is one of two Edsall Houses that Henry Meyer purchased along with a 74 acre farm from the estate of Harriet Edsall.
