Description: Rescue workers, many of them fire fighters, at the scene of a collision between two Long Island Rail Road trains, on temporary tracks east of Merrick Road. Thirty people were killed, and scores more were injured, when these two electric passenger trains collided near the banks Avenue crossing, beyond which there is a single track for both eastbound and westbound trains, because of an overhead grade-crossing project running through the middle of Rockville Centre.
