Description: Eight cars of a train bearing 700 members of the 305th Infantry were overturned by a broken rail in the Long Island Railroad near Central Islip, N.Y. early in the morning on April 15, 1918. Three men were killed and thirty-seven injured. The ten-car train had left Camp Upton in Yaphank during the night and was on its way to Long Island City, the soldiers bound for overseas duty.
