Detail

DateMarch-May, 2020DescriptionA masked pedestrian walks beside a bright and vivid mural but does not look at it. From the donor: Jofeliny 29 years old, East Elmhurst, Queens. I've been unemployed since March 27, 2020. In the last (2) months I have lost (4) Family members from my father side "Tolentino". Stay Strong. Two of the family members we lost were my father’s siblings, a sister and a brother, along with his brother's wife and a Cousin. Covid-19 hit him hard. We never expected all of this. This time in history has taken a toll on my family emotionally, mentally and physically. My father is also a transplant patient who has diabetes; luckily he did not get sick and has been safe and stable. I am extremely grateful; you can only imagine the thoughts that can go in and out of your mind while the pandemic hit its apex. I have kept myself busy staying creative, reading, being with my family, doing photography and remaining positive even when things were just falling apart for my family.I started shooting everything and the changes I would see on my travel to work, on my walks and jogs, supermarket trips, train rides, and bus rides.SourceCollected as part of the Queens Memory COVID-19 ProjectPhotographerFranco, JofelinyLocationEast Elmhurst, Queens, NYGeographic coverageEast Elmhurst (New York, N.Y.)Queens (New York, N.Y.)Geographic coordinates^[1]SubjectCOVID-19 Pandemic, 2020-Street artPedestriansIdentifierFranco-Jofeliny-20200312-003TypeColor photographsOriginal formatDigital photographsMeasurements144 ppiRights statementContact digitalarchives@queenslibrary.org for research and reproduction requests.
