Description: Christine Martinez and her neighbors on Beach 91st Street set up this cooking stove on their street in the weeks after Hurricane Sandy. Their fires at night would both cook their food and also provide a gathering spot on the block where they could discuss their recovery efforts. According to Martinez, "we came up with this idea to put this stove in the middle of the street to let people know on our block that there is warmth and food available."
