Description: The Hal B. Fullerton Photographs consist of photographs Mr. Fullerton took of a variety of scenes throughout Long Island, including Brooklyn, Huntington, Jamaica, Long Island City, Medford and Wading River. A significant portion of the photographs are of the Long Island Rail Road Company's (LIRR) cars and stations. Included in this are photographs of the remains of its Long Island City terminal after the December 18, 1902 fire. Also included are photographs of the railroad’s rotary and wedge snowplows removing snow after the November 1898 and January 1899 blizzards; as well as the wedge snowplow accident of November 1898 in Queens Village. This portion also includes photographs of the railroad’s Cannonball before its first run and the opening day events for the Port Washington Railroad Station. The collection includes photographs of early automobiles and races, including The Long Island Automobile Club’s first endurance run, April 1902 and the first Vanderbilt Cup Race, October 8, 1904. The collection contains photographs of the LIRR’s Experimental Stations in Wading River and Medford, though the majority of these are from their second Experimental Station in Medford. The photographs of the Medford site include images of the land before the farm was built, Italian laborers that cleared the land, Fullerton’s family on the farm, and more. The group also contains photographs documenting Charles M. "Mile-a-Minute" Murphy’s race against time on the LIRR’s track in South Farmingdale. The photographs are of Mr. Murphy preparing for the race, the construction of the track and the LIRR’s cars used by Mr. Murphy to lower wind resistance. These photographs are one of a few Hal B. Fullerton Photograph collections held at other institutions. Some of these photographs are the original glass plate negatives. Some of them are duplicates of photographs held at the Suffolk County Historical Society. The rest are duplicate prints of negatives whose origins are unknown.; Queens Library, Archives at Queens Library. Boxes N38, N56, N57, N152 (negatives and interpositives); P26, P145- P147 (prints); digital images available online; http://www.queenslibrary.org/research/archives
