Description: Cotton printed with portrait of Washington - Made for the Centennial Exposition in 1876. This cotton was probably printed by a two color roller printing machine, in black and red on a bluish white ground. The oval medallion bears a crude engraving after a Stuart portrait of Washington. Below are the scales of Justice and the legend, "Peace." The drawing of the portrait and the sprays shows the character of middle grade engraving on the printing roller.
