Borough President of Queens Photographs
Description: The Borough President of Queens Photographs (1,915 photographs, 1780-1958, bulk 1900-1958) provide excellent documentation of how New York City’s citizens transformed this borough from a sleepy burgh to a bustling borough of homes. The photographs document Queens’ commercial and residential development; major events including the aftermath of storms; landmarks including historic homes, government buildings and bridges; apartment buildings and houses; street and sidewalk construction and renovation; and more in the form of prints and duplicate (not original) negatives in a variety of sizes. Every neighborhood in Queens is documented and no one neighborhood stands out.; The photographs are located in the Archives at Queens Library, 89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica, NY 11432, in the cabinet and in boxes P42, P70 (prints) and N80, N118, N124 and N175 (negatives); the digital images are available online.; http://queenslibrary.org/research/archives
