Suffolk County Education Society Records
Description: This collection consists of only one bound volume and some fifteen loose documents. The volume which covers the period, ca. 1821-1826 appears to be an account book in which were recorded brief financial transactions, especially the recording of receipts for payments received. The Society paid various individuals for boarding students, providing clothing, etc.. Perhaps, only about half or less than half of the volume was used by the Society for there are some later dated entries (ca. 1850) which evidently were used by someone else (perhaps a member of the Rose family) to record other financial transactions in no way bearing on the Society. The volume also contains a statement regarding the Society’s disbandment in 1826. Several pages have been torn out of volume.
