Collection: Bette Weidman Collection at Queens College Libraries' Department of Special Collections and Archives: Harpreet Kaur
Description: Harpreet Kaur (at the time of the inverview)is a 21 year old girl attending St. Johns University. This interview explored her background, religion, parents' immigration to America and most importantly, managing life in school. Harpreet was born to a Sikh family who immigrated to USA 25 years ago; her father was the first one to come to America, he later went back to India to get married and settled in America with his wife. Even though she and her siblings are born in the US, far from the home country, her parents have kept the traditions and culture going among the family. In the interview, Harpreet states that she still knows and is still in touch with her culture, tradition and heritage of being a Sikh. The last part of the interview she talks about going to the Bhangra (Traditional Punjabi Dance) competition in Washington D.C without telling her parents; she got caught later on, but she is proud of her courage to go by herself to a different state for the first time in her life.
